Celebrating Union and Stories Underfoot
We had a wonderful evening on 13 August celebrating our recent LGBTQ+ community projects. We launched our brand-new zine, UNION, exploring the hidden heritage of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. As well as this, we worked with Figmentum Press to launch the book of STORIES UNDERFOOT, a publication that includes the scripts and behind-the-scenes insights of our immersive promenade performances.
Both publications are available now! UNION is free to grab across the Isle of Wight in libraries and community hubs such as Department, and STORIES UNDERFOOT can be bought here.

Book club

Our book club this month is an informal one, due to the Bank Holiday, so there is no homework this time! We are still meeting at One Holyrood at 10.30am on Saturday 29 August for a social catch-up. If you want to get ahead, our next book club will be on Saturday 26 September. We are reading Leeward and The Devil to Pay by Katie Daysh.
LGBTQ+ Meet-up

Our regular LGBTQ+ meet-up happens on the first Saturday of every month. In September, we meet on the 5th in the Fitting Room at Department from 10.30am to 12.30pm. This is a relaxed and friendly meeting and a great way to catch-up with friends and meet new ones.

Write On Wight returns to the Isle of Wight Literary Festival on Friday 9 October. Come along to support the local Island writing community, with the writer residences of Joanna Kori and Maggie Sawkins, the launch of the sixth Figlet from Naked Figleaf Press, the two-minute pitches of Author! Author, an all-day authors’ marketplace, and an exhibition of the Isle of Wight tarot.

After a smash-hit run last summer and a run at Brighton Fringe, the girls are heading back to Ryde in time for Scooter Rally weekend and this time it is bigger and better than before! Two-Stroke returns to Department in a newly revamped version. The fast-paced Northern Soul musical is inspired by the electric atmosphere of the 1986 National Scooter Rally. The show follows three teenagers who pile onto the ferry to the Isle of Wight in search of the best weekend of their lives. Chasing music, freedom and the thrill of escape, the trio find themselves swept into a world of all-nighters, scooter rallies and soul music, where friendships are tested, tensions rise and long-buried secrets begin to surface.
